You will need the vCenter Server Appliance root user credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step one &#8211; connect to vCenter Server Appliance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Using putty or an OS with ssh support, connect through SSH to the vCenter Server Appliance console with the root user credentials  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step two &#8211; Start service tool<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For vCenter 5.x, run the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">\/usr\/lib\/vmware-vmdir\/bin\/vdcadmintool<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>For vCenter 6.0 and 6.5, run the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">shell.set --enabled True \nshell\n\/usr\/lib\/vmware-vmdir\/bin\/vdcadmintool<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The command line displays the following for vCenter 5.5 and vCenter 6.0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">================================\n 0. Exit\n 1. Test LDAP connectivity\n 2. Force start replication cycle\n 3. Reset account password\n 4. Set log level and mask \n 5. Set vmdir state\n================================<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The command line displays the following for vCenter 6.5:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"> ================================\n 0. Exit\n 1. Test LDAP connectivity\n 2. Force start replication cycle\n 3. Reset account password\n 4. Set log level and mask \n 5. Set vmdir state \n 6. Get vmdir state \n 7. Get vmdir log level and mask\n==================================<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step three &#8211; Reset account<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p> Press&nbsp;3&nbsp;to enter the&nbsp;Reset account password&nbsp;option <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step four &#8211; Insert account<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For vCenter 5.5 and vCenter 6.0, when prompted for the Account DN, type:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">cn=Administrator,cn=users,dc=vSphere,dc=local<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>For vCenter 6.5, when prompted for the Account UPN, type:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Administrator@vsphere.local<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>A new password is generated<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step Five &#8211; Log in to vSphere web client<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the administrator@vsphere.local user name and the password generated in the previous step, login to vSphere web client<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step six &#8211; Change password<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>On the home page, click <kbd>Administration &gt; Single Sign-On &gt; Users and Groups<\/kbd>. <\/li><li>Select the <kbd>Administrator<\/kbd> user. <\/li><li>Right-click on the user and click <kbd>Edit User<\/kbd>. <\/li><li>Create a new password.<\/li><li>Confirm the changes.<\/li><li>Click OK.<\/li><li>Sign out of the web client.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step seven &#8211; check new password<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Verify the password was changed by logging back into the web client with the new credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><hr>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Use this procedure to reset the vCenter Server Appliance Administrator (administrator@vsphere.local) password.
